The 4C’s Of Stakeholder Engagement

Stakeholder engagement requires intentionality and discipline. A supportive stakeholder relationship requires continuous attention and time.

There are 4C’s that can be deemed helpful for connecting with stakeholders in a way that supports exceptional project progress.

  1. Clarity: Clearly understand stakeholder needs and expectations so that boundaries, decision-making methods, and communication channels can be established

  2. Communication: Transparency and consistency are crucial so that stakeholders always know when and how they will receive any updates and information

  3. Collaboration: Involve stakeholders in decision-making at every stage to foster a sense of shared ownership and responsibility

  4. Continuous improvement: Reflect on what was successful and what was unsuccessful, and use those lessons to stay on an upward trajectory

Stakeholder engagement is a cornerstone of all successful projects. We embed these 4C’s into stakeholder engagement plans, governance structures, and communication routines so leaders can cultivate the aligned, trusting relationships their projects need to succeed.
